We started out Friday night with our first toasty fire in the fire place. Something we haven't had for 3 years and we really missed. It is finally chilly and down the the 50's at night. It was so nice and the boys just sat in amazement.
Charlottesville Catholic School ALL TERRAIN 5 K! WIll and I ran our first race together. He did an awesome job and made it the whole way. We finished in 40 minutes up and down the hills and one the muddy trail. I was SUPER proud of him and know we will be back next year and with his long lengs we will be running a super fast pace!
Waiting for the crowd to thin before sprinting away!
The final dash UP HILL!
APPLE ORCHARD FESTIVAL! We drove up to Carter Mountain Orchard for the big festival. They gave you a bag to collect your apple and a map to show the different types of apples. We went right for the Golden Delicious with the goal that we will know more types by next year.
Owen getting his apple. Owen could spend every moment outside and this was pure heaven for him!
Jett loves apples and was the man in front finding them all. They were all quite high so we used team work and daddy's super muscles to get our treasures! Jett has been spending the month of Sept studying apples at school with many fun activities. One of them sampling all different apple treats, drinks, desserts and other things and seeing what he likes. He found out his favorite apple is a Granny Smith and he didn't really care for the apple crisp since the "bottom was mushy". He was happy with the many "golden dewicious" apples we would be taking home!
Will on the other hand wants nothing to do with apple (is not a fruit eater!) so he said he wasn't going to "get involved" in the picking fun.
Picture of us all in the beautiful orchard at the top of the mountain. After all the rain the air was so clean and the view spectacular. The sunshine felt soooo good!
Now off to eat the goodies! The feature of the farm are the homeade, fresh doughnuts they make. Scott stood in line for 45 minutes to get these goodies! (FYI- I did run a 5K this morning so the doughnuts are MINE) They were worth every moment of waiting- YUMMY! The kiddos got to play in the pumpkins while we waited. They have hayrides as well but we decided to wait for a cooler day (and one where we are a bit more rested) to hit that with an amazing corn maze.
