Jett turned 5 the beginning of December. As you can tell Batman and Harry Potter are super favs this year. He had been counting down his birthday for at least 2 months and writing list after list of present hopefuls.
A special favorite that Grandma Mary Sue and Grandpa Chuck sent for Jett. They have one and he loves to play with it!
Not my best work but Jett loved it! Being that we have 2 birthdays, Thanksgiving and a trip to and from Florida in a matter of days, this cake didn't have the time spent on it. Covered in candy, Jett couldn't wait to dive into it.
On the 12th we had Jett's big birthday party with all his friends from his class. We had it at My Little Gym where he could show off his Taekwondo moves, lead the obstacle course and really have so much fun.
Will and Brady (Jett's friend that adores Will and is his shadow at recess each day) do birthday pushups!
Then....the fun started. I added this one, because it is almost identical to the infamous cheese mat that caused the fateful injury.
So after Jett's last spin on the cheesemat with a bit of a slip and a twist and a truly "hurt" cry. Scott and I thought we would clear the gym and head for cake and presents. We hoped that would help and all would be fine.
The Batman cake specifically chosen for the Batman motorcycle toy he could play with when the cake was gone.
Although he looks happy here, I think we just cought a midbite look. He couldn't lift his Right arm and on close look you can see the lovely "gray" look color to his face. The next few pics happened quickly as I shoveled in cake for him, made him drink down some juice (in fear the he may be passing out) and scooped him up and out the door to the ER. Most folks thought I was just taking him out for a party break and didn't know that we had rushed the birthday boy away.
Scott and I were rushing through so I don't think we even took a video or quick shot of Jett blowing out the candle. When asked if he was ok to stay for presents and the answer was no- every mom knows that more is going on! What wonderful friends Jett has as Peter and Connor (at the end) were trying to console Jett and making sure he was ok. What great moms to help finish up and gather everything for Scott!
After our first ER trip, a broken elbow and a splint and a sling, we opened presents (with Will's help) and then settled into mom's bed for some rest. Once he was comfortable, he passed out cold!
Yes this smile is real! He had just opened his "Spy briefcase" with a secret light, site and gun. He was thrilled- thanks Ellen!
Two days later we saw the orthopedist and got his first (and hope only!) cast. We were bummed that they didn't have green- his favorite color- but blue will do. Amazingly he did really well and it seemed to feel better once the cast was on. Since it is his right arm, I will get to "baby" my quickly growing boy by helping him some things he has been doing on his own. Since daddy was out of town for the rest of the week we ended up cuddling up together and it was the best part of the bummer accident. Next year we eat cake at home:)
